A new commission...

Hi all. I thought I'd share my latest work in progress with you.....

I am making a lovely, HUGE quilted patchwork cushion cover for a rocking chair.  The lovely lady who has commissioned this, did so after seeing a display of my work in a local boutique during an Arts Festival week.......I was so chuffed to be asked.

I hope you like it so far.......it's a mix between a star block and pinwheel blocks.  I think it's very effective.....do you?  The lady has seen it so far and is thrilled to bits......so much so that she has already commissioned me to create something else for her :-)

For those of you who don't know the story behind Milly Moo Designs, I'll share it with you.....

Milly Moo Designs is named after one of my rescue dogs (a border collie named Milly - but we all call her Milly Moo - she is the one on the right in the picture).  Milly found me in December 2012 at the kennels where I was working at the time.

When she came in, she was thin as a rake (you could get your hands round her tiny waist) and in terrible condition. She was pretty nervous and took a few days before she trusted me.

I decided that she should be in a loving home and so on Boxing Day 2012 she came to live with me, my husband and her furry four legged brothers.  It was obvious from the beginning that there was something wrong with her (other than the obvious neglect) and so she had a few visits to the vets to find out what the trouble was.

Just 2 weeks after having her, it was found that she had a very large, highly cancerous growth at the end of her bowel.  She underwent major surgery to remove both the tumour and part of her bowel.

What followed was months and months of hard work, lots of tears and intensive aftercare. Poor Milly had to wear a 'cone of shame' for six months !!!!  There were times when I questioned whether or not I had done the right thing for her as she was no spring chicken when I took her in.

Eventually, as she started to feel better, her true personality started to shine through and she has become an important member of our family.  Her cheeky antics and mischief keep us all amused and we wouldn't be without her.  Her future isn't certain as the cancer is likely to return at some point, but for now Milly is happy, pain free and loved by everyone who meets her.

I have been crafting for many years and had always dreamed of having my own little business.  The courage, strength and determination that Milly showed whilst going through her ordeal inspired me to take that first big step into turning what was a hobby into a business.

I know it takes time to build up a business, but I'm so very excited to be starting this new venture :-)  I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family and friends for the support they have given me and would like to welcome you all to the Milly Moo family :-)

Here's to success and the many exciting steps along this journey......

Lots of love, Michelle xxxxx

I have a HUGE confession to make......I have done NO sewing since last week!!!!!!

I'm soooooo ashamed (hanging head in shame as I type).  My only (very poor) excuse is that I have been laid up for a few days.  BUT, back to fighting fit and am now off work fir two days so Milly Moo Towers beckons :-)

Just one thing though........I REALLY need to gave a spring clean of Milly Moo Towers do I can really get on :-)

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend xx

Sorry for the delay.....

Hi folks..

Sorry that I've been AWOL for a few days.

It's been a hugely successful week at the kennels this week.......FOUR dogs rehomed !!!  That's just so amazing :-)  One of the dogs had been with us for 5 years !!!!!  So thrilled for them all.  It really is a privilege to be a part of rescue work..................albeit very stressful at times too.

Just wanted to keep you all posted on my progress with the fabric artwork.  Look at it now....nearly finished !!!!

Hopefully, the next picture will be of it fully completed :-)  I'm so thrilled with how it has turned out.....and I have four more orders to be getting on with too.  From just £60, I can create a bespoke artwork for you or someone else.

Picture perfect....

This is my current project.......producing fabric artwork from a photograph.  All you need to do is provide me with a good, clear photograph of your pet and I do the rest.....

This is such a therapeutic form of artwork....lots of fiddly cutting and stitching, but so relaxing and enjoyable :-)  I hope you agree that the results are worth it :-)

I ought to confess that in my 'day' job (for three days a week), I work at a rescue and boarding kennels.  We house a number of dogs and cats for a number of animal charities.  One of these charities is Rottweiler Welfare Association (RWA).  As the charity doesn't receive any form of government funding, they rely on the generosity of their supporters....of which I am one.  I thought that I would produce this artwork for RWA so they could auction/sell it as they see fit to raise more money to add to the pot :-)

Work in progress........
